Education Task Force
The Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory's Education Task Force works with Colorado state agencies, universities, colleges, and community colleges to accomplish two essential goals:
The education of scientists and engineers for industry and academia
The training of workers needed by the private sector for manufacturing, deployment, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy technologies.
Each of the Collaboratory's four research institutions—Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and University of Colorado at Boulder—contribute to the Education Task Force's mission through academic programs and public outreach activities.
Colorado School of Mines
The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) offers 18 energy-related degree programs, including courses in fossil fuel, unconventional, and renewable energy technologies. CSM's interdisciplinary energy minor involves six academic departments. CSM's energy-related public outreach activities include offering short technical courses, producing K-12 modules for classroom instruction, developing curriculum for tribal colleges, and much more.
For more information about CSM's energy education and outreach activities, visit its Colorado Energy Research Institute Web site.
Colorado State University
Colorado State University's (CSU's) curriculum in renewable energy features courses in atmospheric science, business, biology, chemistry, mechanical engineering, and physics. CSU also develops community college certification programs for training photovoltaic system installers and inspectors. Public outreach activities include organizing speakers and programs from the Collaboratory's research institutions, as well as promoting sustainability on its college campus.
For more information about CSU's educational opportunities, visit its Clean Energy Supercluster Web site.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) provides robust educational opportunities and public outreach activities, from internships and postdoctoral research to school competitions and curriculum. For more information, visit the NREL Education Programs Web site.
University of Colorado at Boulder
The University of Colorado (CU) at Boulder offers more than 25 courses on renewable and sustainable energy, including those about the environment, power electronics, policy, and energy security. Two of CU's graduate degree programs—environmental studies and civil engineering—have specializations in energy. And CU offers undergraduate and graduate energy certificate programs, as well as a certificate in sustainable practices through its continuing education program.
For more information about CU's educational opportunities, visit its Energy Initiative Web site.
